And I already regret it. I’ve heard a lot of people say this game is very difficult and they were right. Like Donkey Kong Country Returns, Shin Megami Tensei IV has nothing easy, even at the beginning. It’s hard to get decent amounts of Macca, which is your money in this game, making it hard to…
Sounds like you need some help. First thing don’t bother buying healing items. You can heal in your room for free, and as usual in RPGs nobody wonders or cares about why you sleep so much. Secondly you don’t have to give the demons anything you don’t want to; in fact some of the demons will respect you for it. Keep in mind that nobody will join you for free, but most demons wont serve a push over who will give them anything they ask for. Also save often: when you gain a level, gain a new demon, and anytime the game tells you something dangerous is ahead. Yes this game is tough, but it is not unfair. It just has a steep learning curve and it does not hold your hand. Believe it or not this is one of the easier Shin Megami Tensei games.
No, I beg to differ. I find Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers much easier than Shin Megami Tensei IV and Soul Hackers carries a mechanic where if your character dies, it’s an automatic game over no matter how many other party members you have left. No one even gets a chance to revive you. I understand that the protagonist is the only playable character (Not counting the Vision Quest characters) who can use a COMP and that we can’t do anything with our demons without that COMP, but, come on. Still, even with this mechanic, Soul Hackers has proven to me to be a great, fun game. Shin Megami Tensei IV, on the other hand, has proven to be more frustrating than fun.
I’m sorry, I haven’t played Soul Hackers yet. I was only commenting on the relative difficulty of IV when compared to I through III. Most fans agree IV is the least difficult of the main series. That being said it is still an incredibly difficult game. I was just trying to help you get your money’s worth and give the game another, more educated, shot.
